
Mrs. Esther F. C. Wu Memorial Fund Travelling Scholarship
The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong has established Research Grants under the aegis of the Research Committee since 2006 to promote research activities of trainees. The Research Grants will be awarded to Higher Surgical Trainees on a competitive basis to support their research projects.
All Higher Surgical Trainees of the College are eligible to apply for the Grants. Invitations will be sent to all individual HSTs when there is an opening of applications for the Grants, HSTs can also check the announcements at our website.
The granted trainees have to fulfill the obligations to submit a full report, which will be published in the Journal of Surgical Practice, to the Research Committee upon completion of the research projects and present their projects at the College Annual Scientific Meeting.
BEST RESEARCH AWARD
The Best Research Award was established to encourage the high-quality submission of research projects from Higher Surgical Trainees and recognize those outstanding submissions. Every year, the Research Committee would assess the research projects of HSTs with the following grades:
- Pass
- Pass with Merit and
- Pass with Distinction
The committee would nominate research project(s) for the Best Research Award (1st Prize and 2nd Prize) and the nomination is subject to the decision of the Committee. This award consists of a certificate and cash award. The recipient is presented with the award at the Diploma Conferment Ceremony every year.
MEDALS
CH Leong Medal & Scholarship
CH Leong Medal & Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Founding President of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong – Dr Che-hung LEONG who is a great leader in surgery and has pioneered in many surgical development in Urology. Dr Leong was extensively involved in public service and he was awarded the honours of OBE and GBS in 1991 and 2001 respectively. The noble aim to the CH LEONG Medal and Scholarship is to encourage and recognize trainees’ endeavour in their process of surgical training. The medal and scholarship is awarded to the most outstanding candidate of the Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination in Urology every year.
GB Ong Medal
The GB Ong Medal is endowed to recognize the candidate which achieves the highest mark in the bicollegiate FRCS in General Surgery which is held in Hong Kong for Hong Kong candidates.
Li Shields’ Medal
Li Shields’ Medal was established to recognize and encourage candidate sitting for the Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination in General Surgery to strive for excellence in the examination. It is awarded to the most local outstanding candidate for the captioned examination every year.
