  To Become A College Trainer

General Guidelines

  1. Each accredited training centre/programme should have at least two full-time trainers.  A full-time trainer must have a full-time appointment of the institution.
  2. A surgeon who has contributed regular weekly sessions in a training centre is eligible for appointment as a College Trainer.  A trainer is expected to contribute in teaching activities of the respective specialty, such as operation, OPD, patient management and grand round, etc.
  3. A surgeon who has committed at least five sessions per week in a training centre can be appointed as a principal trainer, and can be counted towards the trainer to trainee ratio.  Two principal trainers may team up to monitor the training of a trainee.
  4. The work performed by a surgeon who cannot fulfill the minimum requirement of five sessions per week in a training centre can be regarded as an acceptable training material counted towards trainee logbooks.
  5. Applicants who wish to become a trainer must fulfill the minimum criteria set out by the College (please refer to the document Minimum Criteria to Become a Trainer).  A completed application form, the applicant’s C.V. and the relevant working schedule/timetable in a training centre must be submitted to the College through the institution for vetting by the respective Specialty Board and endorsement by the Education & Examination Committee and Council.
  6. It is the responsibility of an institution to report to the College concerning the appointment and resignation of a trainer from time to time for updating the College’s records.
